Four people were injured when a local journalist and his family members came under attack in Thakurgaon municipality area yesterday.

According to the family members, a group led by one Raisul and his brothers from Sarkarpara entered the house of Shakil Ahmed — district correspondent of bdnews24.com and Amader Somoy — in Collegepara Adamnagar area and attacked the journalist and his family members with sharp weapons.

Shakil’s father Adam Ali (45), mother Shakila Begum (35), uncle Alam Hossain (55), and cousin Labu (20), were seriously injured in the attack.

Locals rescued and admitted them to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.

Family members said Raisul slapped Shakil’s cousin Abid (10) when he picked fruit from a tree near their house around 5:30pm yesterday.

Hearing of the incident, Shakil went to talk to Raisul. But Raisul and his brothers chased Shakil to his house and attacked his family members.

The attackers fled the scene when locals rushed to the spot after family members cried for help.

Shakil said, “They first attempted to stab me with a machete. But, somehow, I escaped unhurt and entered my house. Then, they attacked my family members, injuring four persons including my parents.”

Rakibul Alam, a resident medical officer of Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital, said four members of a family were admitted to the hospital. One of them, Alam Hossain, was later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated fast.

Shakil has filed a case with Thakurgaon Police Station against 15 people mentioning the names of eight persons including Raisul.

Officer-in-Charge of the police station Tanvirul Islam said police are conducting drives to arrest the attackers.
