A court in Kushtia sent a man to jail yesterday in a case filed under Digital Security Act over a Facebook post he made about Kushtia-4 Lawmaker Selim Altaf George.

The accused is Rafiqul Islam (30) of Dayrampur village in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali upazila, reports our local correspondent.

A judge of Kushtia Chief Judicial Magistrate Court yesterday evening sent Rafiqul to jail after police produced him before the court after his arrest, said Mujibur Rahman, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station.

OC Mujibur Rahman said Rafiqul, auto-rickshaw driver by profession, was arrested from his residence around 2:00pm after the MP’s cousin Abu Saeed Johnny filed the case under the Digital Security Act with Kumarkhali Police Station yesterday morning.

According to the case statement, Rafiqul made an offensive post on Facebook against MP Selim Altaf George on April 17.
