Two siblings were sent to jail by a court in Chattogram today after they were arrested by police in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) on charge of posting anti-government statuses on Facebook.

The arrestees are Md Towhidul Islam (27) and his younger brother Hafez Mohammed Shahdat Hossain (22) of Tendalpara area under Satkania upazila of Chattogram, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

They were held last night after Satkania municipality unit Chhatra League leader Abul Kalam Azad lodged a written complaint with the police station, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain of Satkania police station.

“The two siblings use four Facebook accounts. From the accounts, they used to post and share anti-government posts mentioning the prime minister’s name, Jubo League (JL) and Chhatra League,” said the OC.

Getting the complaint, police arrested them last night and seized their mobile phones, he said.

“Police found the truth of posting offensive remarks against the prime minister after searching their phones,” said the police official.

They were sent to jail in this connection after they were before a Chattogram court today, added the OC.
